Thanks for listening to Southern Roots Radio. There are Several Ways To Listen To The SRR Stream. The java popup window for basic listening or Windows Media Player for more control over audio quality. Both require Windows Media Player and a plug-in from Abacast which should install automatically. The MAC links do not require an additional download and will work with Windows. See troubleshooting below if you have issues listening to the stream.

You need Windows Media Player for Macintosh installed to listen to most of our streams. Try this link:

You may have to check your Windows Media Player settings. It could be that .asx files are not set as default playback file for Windows Media Player. Here is how to check:

Open Windows Media Player, then select Tools, then select Options, then select the File Types tab. Click the Select All button near the bottom on the right side of the window, click Apply and then click OK.

If you are using Norton Anti-Virus and/or Internet Security software, Norton's Ad-blocking features of NIS/NPF should be disabled. Here is a link to the instructions to disable the feature:

If you are not using Norton but are using another type of firewall software (other than Windows Firewall which will not hinder streaming content), try exiting any other Firewall or Ad-Blocking software and then rechecking the stream link.

Here are Some Common issues not allowing access the stream:

Are you are using a ‘Popup Stopper’ program? If so, it may be blocking our ‘popup’ player window. Try holding down the <Ctrl> key while you click on the listen link, as this is usually a bypass feature in most ‘popup stopper’ programs. Some ‘Popup” stopper programs allow you to add web sites that are okay for ‘popups’.

If you cannot hear the stream, or other streams from Windows Media, please turn off your virus protection software, and try to reconnect. If your system is behind a firewall, please contact your network administrator to open up your firewall to allow your system to access this stream.

NETSCAPE USERS - please use Windows Media Player 6.0 and above, and use the controls on your computer to adjust the volume.

MAC USERS - you can use Internet Explorer for Macintosh, and use your volume controls on your computer to adjust the volume.
